Backup Hyper-v or VMware virtual servers onsite and offsite to our data centres automatically and in totality. Restore virtual servers in seconds or
restore at individual file level or mail level. If your server and local backup have been destroyed we can make your backed up server available in the
cloud within minutes.
Company data is the lifeline of any business, customer account details, invoices, supplier information, staff information to mention a few are all key
to the continuation of a business. Imagine if for whatever reason the server that holds that information fails, what would your business do? How long
would it take for your business to recover from a disaster? More importantly what would the loss of income be for that period and moving forward?
The last few years have seen an increase in the use of virtualised servers. Virtualisation is used with a larger physical server that is running with a
number of smaller virtualised servers usually with a specific purpose. An example would be a virtual server for SQL, one for Exchange email, another for
applications. Although there are countless merits of having a virtualised environment, a major issue with this type of infrastructure is a failure on the
main host server, which means all hosted virtualised servers will also fail which in turn increases the importance of virtual machine backup and restore plan.
Virtual Backup and Data Recovery main features
Explore the main features of our secure and resilient virtual backup and data recover solutions below.
Live Virtual Server Backup
You don't need to sacrifice performance or business productivity whilst backups are being carried out. Our vBDR solution
securely backs up your virtual machines both locally and offsite to our cloud giving you a consolidated and live backup
solution. Our system is so efficient that there will be a zero impact on your servers whilst backups are in operation.
Built-in Online Replication
Our vBDR solution gives you the flexibility of having local and remote backups of your virtual servers. You can choose to
store the local copy to the media of your choice or just leave safely on the server. The offsite backup will be replicated
to our three UK data centres for safe keeping and can be easily restored.
Granular File Level Restore
Our granular file level restoration is very different to other systems. Most backup systems need to perform file level
backups in order to recover individual files. Our solution incorporates technology that allows file level recovery from
a single full backup.
Full Exchange Database or Mail Level Restore
Mitol's vBDR solution fully backs up your Microsoft Exchange database but does so at an individual mail or item level.
The flexibility is given to you whether you need to recover your entire virtualised Exchange server, just the Exchange
database or even if you just need to recover a particular email.
Remote Management
Our vBDR solution provides you with an online management portal to make sure you are in complete control of your backups
and restores. You don't have to be confined to your office to login in to the secure portal and manage any element of your
backup or restore process.
Sandbox Restore
Although you will be notified via email every time a backup completes, having a successful backup is only half of the
Disaster Recovery procedure. It is important that test restores are carried out. We include Sandbox restore functionality
where you can manually or through a schedule can perform a test restore to give you that extra peace of mind.
Flexible Backup Media
Local backups are created initially as part of vBDR before they are uploaded to our UK data centres. Local backups can be run to various media including:
- USB external drives and flash drives
- eSata external drives
- File server network shares (via UNC path)
- NAS devices (via UNC path)
A Host of Restore Options
When the time comes where you need to recover either an entire server or just a few files, rest assured that our vBDR solution
offers great flexibility. You can restore entire servers from a number of previous backup points and even restore a VM to the
same physical server but with a different name without the need to overwrite your live VM.
Safe and Secure Encryption Methods
Security should be at the top of the list for any business owner especially when it comes to the IT systems. Your data is
enrypted to military standards at source before any uploading begins. Additionally the connection from your business to our
UK data centres is further encrypted using the WCF framework ensuring that your data is safe in transit and storage.
Hybrid Online and Onsite Backup for Virtual Servers
There have been numerous studies which concluded that many organisations in the event of a disaster are not able to be fully operational within a "Recovery Time
Objective" i.e. it takes too long to recover from a disaster. A follow on problem during and after a disaster, often results in a loss of business, in many cases,
the loss is so catastrophic that the business closes permanently. It is frequently said that disaster recovery plans are expensive but this is usually from the
business owners that had to close their business due to inadequate disaster recovery procedures.
Although hardware is more durable, it is always preferred to replace hardware every three to five years. Unfortunately because of the large amounts of capital outlay
for hardware and software, servers are not always replaced or upgraded leaving them more open to failure. The financial commitments of hardware upgrades, software and
license upgrades pushes disaster recovery down the priority list, further exposing the business to risk in the event of a failure.
How can I protect my business?
With Mitol's Backup & Disaster Recovery for Virtual Servers solution (vBDR) your virtual servers can be backed up in as little as every five minutes. Every time a backup
completes it will be copied across to our cloud. Your backups will be safely stored and replicated to all three of our UK data centres giving you peace of mind that your
infrastructure is safe.
Our vBDR solution will securely backup and store your virtual server infrastructure but this is only half of its merit, if your local backups cannot be used
to recover your servers vBDR will step in. Our system is so powerful that we can recover your virtual server locally on your network or even to one of our
data centres. What this means is that if for whatever reason your network or building is not available, your servers can still be made available in our
Cloud ready for your staff to log in and continue with their work, all in a matter of minutes.
Why VBDR?
Traditionally the backup and restore of virtual servers was an expensive and complicated matter. Many of the solutions on the market are still quite
expensive due to the pricing structures depending on the number of processors, cores or the number of virtual machines in place. We understand that you
don't want complicated and expensive solutions that could rise dramatically if you decide to introduce more virtual machines within your infrastructure.
Many solutions don't offer an in the cloud backup of the virtual machines and if they do it almost certainly warrants additional costs.
Mitol is incorporating the next generation of data backup for virtual servers. vBDR technology is the next evolutionary step that fuels data protection
and restoration. We combine variable-length block-level global de-duplication technology with a powerful proprietary file system to provide near
instantaneous granular any-point-in-time restores that also dramatically reduces storage requirements.
What does this mean to you? vBDR technology will reduce your online storage fees and will make you restores faster, more secure and more manageable. We utilise
this technology to allow you to seamlessly backup your virtual machines and have them stored in multiple secure locations. To top that off, you will have an
efficient means of recovering your data, both of which are critical in the event of a disaster.
Instantly recover your system With vBDR you can instantly boot or restore in any format. Imagine a process which can backup all your
VMs without the lengthy and complicated restore process. All our backup images are stored at block level after de-duplication regardless of whether the
source is VMWare or Hyper-V. As a result, any of our backed up server images are available in all the usual VMDK, VHD, VHDX formats. You can even instantly
book, mount and restore fully compressed, de-duplicated and encrypted backups.
No more complicated backup schedules There is no longer a need for complicated incremental, differential, full backup combinations.
Every incremental is virtually available as a full backup and is a self-sufficient backup whilst taking up a fraction of the storage. There is no backup
chain to traverse for merging incremental backups and no longer a risk of corruption from accidental deletions. Any desired point-in-time recovery is a
single step and occurs instantaneously. One retention policy will meet your needs, it is that simple.
Perfect for the SME A perfect solution for small to medium businesses, the Mitol vBDR solution is a comprehensive data protection
solution designed for MSPs and IT Managers. It combines simplicity with advanced disk image technology perfect for your data protection and disaster recovery
needs. vBDR is your one-stop solution for virtual server backups, restores and disaster recovery.
Onsite and offsite protection vBDR offers all the benefits of an onsite backup along with the added security of an offsite backup. Both are
couple with several layers of security further protecting your company's data. You can protect files, databases, email systems and applications in both physical
environments within your organisation and in the cloud on the Mitol UK data centres. In the event of a disaster your data and servers can be easily restored to
any point locally or from our data centres instantly.

Yes, there are configuration settings within our software which can be used via the main management console in order to truncate the transaction logs
of Microsoft Exchange and SQL database environments. Our system will also allow the restoring of your exchange environment even at individual email level.
At the moment this is not possible. Microsoft however do offer conversion tools where this is possible. We always have our ear to the ground
and rest assured that as soon as this is available we will look to include it within our offering.
We do not believe in large set-up or software license fees, we certainly don't believe in software maintenance charges which can quickly snowball
as your infrastructure grows. Our price structure is an easy to budget low monthly charge starting as little as £50.00 per physical server.
This price is regardless of the number of virtual servers, you only pay a license for the physical host server. As your infrastructure grows, you
are able to add additional physical servers or extra storage as required. Please see our price guide for details or contact us for further
information.
Absolutely no problem! If you search "Server Core" in our knowledge base in the support tab of the main menu, you will find comprehensive guides for the
installation. We are also on hand if you prefer to telephone us and get assistance or information.
Yes. Our system utilises VSS in order to back up virtual machines without taking them offline or interrupting them. We can backup "live" or "hot"
backups. This process is completed with zero impact on the virtual machine but there are certain preconditions that need to be met for this
process.
Of course, in fact for the initial backups it is often the case that the local Internet bandwidth isn't sufficient to upload the backup in an
evening therefore a manual transport of the first backup is often used. The process would be to complete the first local backup, copy the files
to an external device and then send it to us where we will manually copy it to the UK data centre storage. Subsequent backups would then
comfortably complete overnight. This is the process of seeding to disk.
You can store as many versions as you want. Most companies store old or deleted data for a minimum of 90 days but you can choose how long you
keep old data for, if you have the storage space this can be pretty much an unlimited period.
Unfortunately not, our vBDR solution has been designed as a complete onsite and offsite data protection solution offering the highest data
availability regardless of disaster type. To achieve this high level of resilience and availability it is important that data is backed up
and stored onsite and offsite at our UK data centres. Bear in mind that local backups can be executed on to USB drives, NAS, SAN or UNC
path to another network location.
Yes! Every backup has to be checked as degradation and failure of storage devices is not uncommon. Our verification feature will allow you
to compare the data on your local drive to a checksum taken at the time of backup to verify the integrity of our data on the disk therefore
offering a total restore peace of mind.
No, the "v" in vBDR stands for virtual, vBDR is designed and built around a virtual server environment. For physical server backups please see
our online backup section in the main menu to see how our Perfectbackup system can meet your expectations and requirements. Alternatively please
contact us to discuss your requirements.
